Abstract

507,703. Aerating liquids; siphon bottles. SIPHONATOR, Inc. May 31, 1938, Nos. 16278 and 16279. Convention. dates, Aug. 17, 1937 and Sept. 13, 1937. [Class 14 (i)] - A siphon bottle is provided, in its base, with valvecontrolled inlets for water and compressed gas, whereby the operations of charging and carbonating can be performed simultaneously. A valve body 24 screwed into the base 22 forms a guide for a watersupply tube 29 which is fitted at its upper end with a spray-producer 23 and at its lower end with a check valve 30. Gas enters the bottle by passages 34, 35 and an opening 36 normally closed by a valve 37 on the tube 29, the latter being pressed outwardly by a spring 38. The valve body 24 is formed with mutilated threads 43 for ready attachment to a socket 41, which may be secured to a shelf or counter 11. The socket is connected to a fitting 38a to which are connected water and gas supply pipes 12, 13. The pipe 12 is connected to the pipe 29, when the coupling 43 is made, by way of ports 51, chamber 45, ports 52, and a tube 33 slidable in the fitting 38a. Normally, a spring 57 raises the tube 33 so that a valve 56 closes the gas passage 55, and a valve 47 is raised by a spring 48 to close the ports 52. When the coupling 43 is made, the lower end of the tube 29 forces down the tube 33, to open the valves 56 and 47, and is itself raised to open the valve 37. Water is then sprayed into the upper end of the bottle, and is impregnated with gas admitted by the passages 55, 34, 35, 36. When the bottle is full, it is disconnected at the coupling 43. The valves 37 and 30 in the bottle and 56, 47 in the supply means then all close under the action of the respective springs and of the pressure prevailing in the bottle and supply means. In a modification, the tube 29 is fixed, and a separate check valve is provided for the gas supply port.
