Abstract
457,457. Washing locomotives &c. METCALFE, R. D., and METCALFE, J. C., Injector Works, Romiley, Cheshire. May 27, 1935, No. 15378. [Class 138 (i)] [See also Group XXVIII] A portable washing-apparatus for locomotives &c. comprises a truck v upon which is mounted an injector b with an overflow valve h under the control of a lever j acted upon by the pressure of the delivery through a plunger i and a spring g k. Flexible steam and water connections a, d<1> and one or more flexible delivery connections q to spraynozzle fittings r controlled by valves, are provided. The water supply is controlled by a cock, and the delivery is provided with a spring-loaded relief valve. The spring k releases the valve h at starting. A tank x for oil or like cleaning-fluid is connected at the bottom through a valve-controlled passage y to the steam supply, and at the top through a valve-controlled passage 10 and a sightfeed glass 11 to the water supply. Oil may be supplied to the water to give a finishing- coat to the locomotive, by opening the valves in passages y, 10.
