507,369. Cooling &c. rolled tubes. MANNESMANNROHREN-WERKE. May 3, 1938, Nos. 13167 and 13168. Convention dates, May 3, 1937 and June 4, 1937. [Class 83 (iv)] Straightening.-Tubes passing over a cooling bed are axially rotated during their longitudinal travel by means of double conical rollers i, whereby the tube is cooled and de-scaled uniformly, as all parts contact at some stage with the rollers, the double conical rollers i being so steeply inclined as to guide the tubes without the assistance of auxiliary side rollers. A tube a, Fig. 2, is lifted from a rolling mill delivery channel c by levers b and rolls down the lifted bars d to a stop e thereon which lowers it on to a weighing machine f from which one set of levers g lift and roll it down to their other end stops h, k or l, thereby distributing the tubes to the various groove channels formed by the series of double conical rollers. At the end of the bed the tubes are stopped at n which brings into operation plungers o to lift them to levers q, r, s which lower simultaneously and distribute them to a reversely running set of double conical rollers u. The bed rollers, extending one and a half to two tube lengths, before and after this transfer, run at higher velocity than the rest of the bed rollers. A straightening device may be inserted where required in the cooling bed, e.g. a series of rollers X and Z above the bed rollers acting to hold down the tube during its travel when being straightened by rollers y. The tubes may be removed from the cooling bed at any desired place.
