Abstract

506,512. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. Nov. 29, 1937, No. 32873. Convention date, Dec. 7, 1936. [Class 8 (i)] The floor nozzle 5 of a vacuum cleaner is mounted to tilt about pivots 8, and is formed with lateral passages leading to the sides of a fan and motor casing 10. The passage on one side is divided by a partition 6a into a part normally connecting the floor nozzle with the eye of the fan, and a second part which in the tilted position brings a converter port normally closed by a cover 6c into register with the fan eye, so that a hose attachment may be connected with the fan on removing the cover. The other passage contains the belt which drives the agitator from the motor, and in the tilted position the belt tensioning member carried by the passage wall is moved out of contact with the belt, stopping the drive to the agitator. The fan casing may move with the handle and may tilt the nozzle by engagement of projections carried by the casing and nozzle.
