504,924. Casting composite articles. DEMAG AKT.-GES. Oct. 27, 1937, No. 29286. Convention date, Nov. 2, 1936. [Classes 83 (i) and 83 (ii)] A process for casting cast iron annular bodies 1 on steel or forged iron shafts wherein the initial diameter of the shaft 2 is determined to approximate to the external diameter of a transition zone 3 that is present between the cast iron and steel, this zone being exterior to the final diameter of the shaft, the latter being made suitable for effective fusion of the cast iron and steel by increasing its carbon content. The carbon content of the exterior surface of the shaft is increased by pouring a surplus of cast iron through an overflow mould. The working diameter 2a of the shaft is finally obtained by turning it down below the diameter of the transition zone 3 and the end of the annular cast-on portion removed to remove fissures &c. which occur at the end joining surfaces.
