471,564. Casting composite cylinder liners. SHEEPBRIDGE STOKES CENTRIFUGAL CASTINGS CO., Ltd., and STOKES, F. W. May 15, 1936, No. 13847. [Class 83 (i)] A cylinder liner composed of an outer layer of steel and an inner layer of cast iron as described in Specification 471,517, is made by casting the iron centrifugally in a preformed shell of steel. This may be preheated, before or after inserting in the casting machine, to from 400‹ C. to the welding temperature of steel. The inner face of the shell may be plated to prevent rusting or coated with borax, powdered glass or other flux or both, or the operation may be effected in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. The face of the shell may also be threaded, grooved, serrated or otherwise roughened.
