Abstract

504,404. Pipe joints; valves. DUN LOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., WRIGHT, J and TREVASKIS, H. Nov. 3, 1937, No. 30073. [Class 99 (i) [Also in Group XXIX] In a spigot-andsocket joint in which each part has a valve which is opened when the parts are coupled, the socket 2 has a spring-loaded annular valve member 8 which engages a conical seat 7. The valve has a cup leather 13 expanded by a wedge ring 12. On coupling, the end of the spigot 18 raises the valve 8, and a valve 20 is raised from its seat in the end of the spigot by the valve-seat 7. A flange 16 on the spigot compresses a gasket 25 at the mouth of the socket. In a modification the stem 6a of the seat 7 is removably held in the socket by a split bush 26 and cap 27, the socket having a swivel coupling 28. Specification 491,630 is referred to.
