Abstract
419,129. Pipe couplings. WHEATON, A. W., 77, Durand Road, Maplewood, New Jersey, U.S.A. July 11, 1934, No. 20359. [Class 99 (i).] In a coupling for connecting hose pipes to underground tanks a socket 3 has a gasket 6 which is retained on the ledge 4 by an overhanging shoulder 5. The hose is attached to a spigot member 11 having a flange 13. An annular rib 14 on the underside of the flange seats on the gasket. The spigot has notches 17 which engage lugs 7 to hold it against rotation. Lugs 21 on a locking ring 18 enter the socket through slots 10 and engage inclined surfaces 9 when the ring is rotated. A pair of opposite lugs 20 on the ring bear on the flange 13 allowing the ring to pivot slightly so as to maintain even pressure on the gasket.
