Abstract
501,453. Skis. PAULIK, P. Aug. 31, 1937, No. 23811. [Class 132 (i)] A brake for an iron ski is operated by the heel of the user but can be retained in inoperative position. The iron ski comprises a sole plate I with a central longitudinal upright flange II having pivoted to it at d levers 3 on opposite sides of the flange and connected by elements 7 moving within a recess in the flange and carrying the heel plate 6 by brackets 6a. The levers 3 and plate 6 are supported by springs 4 and the levers 3 are fitted at their free ends with braking claws e adapted, under pressure of the heel in opposition to the springs 4, to be applied to the ground. The springs 4 are pivoted to the flange II and supported by abutments 5 adjustable along slots 10 in accordance with the weight of the user. The levers 3 are normally supported on wedges b which prevent movement of the levers but which are moved into inoperative position through the rods 2 and the movable double-armed forked lever 1. A weighted lever h pivoted on brackets 12 has secured to it a member 11 having two prongs g and a prong f to counteract back-sliding on rising ground. The brackets 12 act as a stop for a nose-piece i on the lever h during forward motion.
