Abstract

500,408. Spools and package supports. AMERICAN PAPER TUBE CO. March 29, 1938, No. 9643. Convention date, April 3, 1937. [Class 120 (iii)] A package support for use in a loom shuttle is of 'tubular form with an elongated cross section and has a closed tip; it is formed of fibrous material. The tapered tube 2 is made by winding paper or like fibrous material around a mandrel of the desired shape, and providing it with a metal sleeve 10 at its larger end to serve as a contact element for the loom-filling changing mechanism. The butt end of the sleeve has a flange 12 and its inner end is rolled inwardly to grip the tube 2. The layers of paper are secured by a suitable adhesive and indentations 7 assist in holding the initial turns of yarn in place. The tube may have a cross-sectional shape as shown in Fig. 3, or may have a substantially oval or rectangular shape. At the end 4 of the tube the side edges are cut away to leave the sloping edges 5 ; an adhesive is inserted in the opening 6 and the opposing faces are compressed to cause them to adhere. The edges are then rounded off.
