Abstract

500,009. Cleaning magnesium. AMERICAN MAGNESIUM CORPORATION. March 25, 1938, No. 9192. Convention date, April 7, 1937. [Class 91] Magnesium and magnesium base alloy surfaces are cleaned by aqueous solutions containing 2-20 per cent by vol. of a mineral acid and 15-35 per cent of a polyhydric alcohol. Sulphuric, hydrochloric, and nitric are suitable acids; glycerine, glycol, and diethylene glycol are suitable alcohols. A useful solution is composed of 5 vol. of sulphuric acid, 25 vol. of glycerine, and 70 vol. of water.
