499,465. Elastic - fluid turbines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 8, 1938, No. 23398. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1937. [Class 110 (iii)] In a steam-turbine plant comprising an auxiliary turbine 1 and a double-extraction turbine 7 ... 9, an accumulator 14 is introduced between the two extraction points 12, 13 to compensate automatically for load and extraction peaks. Turbine 1 is fed from high-pressure boilers 2 and regulated by pressure and speed governors 4, 5 and feeds line 3 through valve 32. Line 3 is fed through valve 33 from medium-pressure boilers 6, a high-pressure safety-valve 34 being provided. The turbine stages 7 ... 9 are controlled by intercoupled valves 22, 17, 18. Valve 22 is connected to a pressure governor 21 in the main supply line 3 and to a lever 27 having a movable pivot 29. Valve 17 is connected to lever 25 having an adjustable pivot 26 with limiting top position and coupled to a pressure governor 20 in line 13. Valve 18 is linked to levers 25, 27 and to a lever 28 coupled to a speed governor 19 and to a pressure governor 23 in line 12, a runner 24 being provided. The accumulator 14 is connected through valves 15, 16 controlled by the pressures in lines 12, 13, which lead to the consumers 10, 11. hi case of fluctuations of load, governor 19 first influences valve 18, and, if the load is very light, then valve 17 also, accumulator 14 supplying line 13 through valve 16. With increase in load, valve 17 opens until valve 16 closes, governor 20 preventing further opening of valve 17 while governor 19 opens valve 18. Finally, governor 19 opens valve 18 fully and valve 16 is also opened. With decreasing load, valve 16 closes and valve 15 opens. If boilers 2 are cut out, runner 24 becomes rigid, governor 21 is cut out, and lever 25 is connected to valve 18 and pivot 29 which becomes fixed.
