Abstract

495,840. Control of A.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 21, 1937, No. 14212. Convention date, May 21, 1936. [Class 38 (iii)] In a system for starting a synchronous motor 1 with its field 3 connected to a resistance 6, in which, as described in Specification 384,567, the energization of the field is effected under the control of a relay 11 energized from the resistance 6 through a rectifier 10, a condenser 16 is connected in parallel with the rectifier 10 whereby the current in the coil of the relay 11 falls to zero before the current in the field winding. Thus the operation of the field switch 9, in response to the relay 11, takes place at the most favourable point in the cycle of induced field current. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an arrangement in which an additional rectifier is connected across the coil of the relay 11 in opposition to the rectifier 10. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
