441,717. Control of A.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Sept. 22, 1934, No. 27269. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1933. [Class 38 (iii)] Non-regenerative braking.-For braking threephase motors, directcurrent is fed to the primary windings a, b, c, from a static contact rectifier k, one or more resistances d, e, t, being connected across the primary windings to prevent excessive voltage on the rectifier. In a modification of the arrangement shown two of the phases of the primary winding are directly short-circuited, and a resistance is connected between this short-circuit and the third phase. In a further modification choking coils of low saturation are connected between the points of connection of the rectifier circuit, and the phase windings. Two phases only may be connected through a choking coil and a resistance. A resistance and a choking coil may be connected to the primary circuit through a single-pole switch, or a circuit comprising a resistance and a choking coil may be permanently connected to the primary windings, the rectifier circuit being connected across the resistance by a single-pole switch for braking.
