Abstract
495,630. Adjustable seats. SLEIGH, H. L., CHESTON, A. S., and OLDHAM, F.A.M. Oct. 7, 1937, Nos. 16640/38 (divided out of 491,628), [Group XXIV], and 17253/38 .(divided out of 488,659). [Class 52 (ii)] A vertically adjustable seat, particularly for vehicles, comprises a seat frame 2, Figs. 1 and 3, having rear guide members, e.g. lugs 8, 9 in conjunction with the side members of the frame 2, which engage with stationary guides 5, in combination with stop members 21 which normally limit the movement of the frame but which can be displaced or moved to inoperative position to permit vertical movement of the frame to a position in which it can be separated from the guides 5. For this purpose the flanges forming the guides are gapped at 20, Fig. 4, and stops 21 comprising inverted T-shaped members are pivoted to the frame 2 and normally engage lugs 23 on the guides 5. When the stops are swung forwardly, the lugs 9 may pass through the gaps 20 after the frame 2 has been raised to a suitable height. Vertical adjustment of the seat frame on the guides is effected by means of a vertical screw-threaded shaft 14 mounted in the frame and passing through a nut 17 which is loosely held within an open fronted housing 18 on a cross bar connecting the guide bars 5. The shaft 14 is rotated through bevel gears 12, 13 from a shaft 10 provided with a handle 11, Fig. 1. When the seat frame is detached from the guides the nut 17 is withdrawn from the housing 18. Modified forms of the stop members 21 are described.
