Abstract

493,697. Vehicle brakes. THOMAS, A. R. March 9, 1937, No. 6956. [Class 103 (i)] A hydraulic transmission .brake operated by master cylinder 3, is provided with supplementary means to vary the braking pressure rapidly. This means comprises a diaphragm or piston at in contact with the transmission fluid and adapted to be oscillated by a motor 2. Control of the motor may be independent or interconnected with the brake applying mechanism. A constriction 7 or non- return valve insulated the master cylinder from the oscillations. The piston may be operated from the vehicle engine, induction pipe &c., or by direct electromagnetic excitation. The invention may be applied to mechanically operated brakes by means of cams operated electrically or by a lay shaft.
