Abstract

492,647. Ozone apparatus. SUTTON, F. C., and BROWNE, R. J. March 23, 1937, No. 33582/36. [Class 39 (i)] Apparatus for the production of ozone comprises electrodes in the form of hollow polygonal prisms arranged adjacent to each other so as to form a cellular structure, the electrodes being connected to sources of potential so that each electrode has at least one adjacent electrode, from which it is insulated, at a different potential. In the construction shown, the ozonizing chamber consists of a number of hexagonal tubes of dielectric material 14, lined with perforated aluminium electrodes 4, 5<1> and an outer electrode 3. The central and outer electrodes 4, 3 are connected to one terminal of a source of high potential and the ring of electrodes, which are electrically connected to each other by bolts 15, to the other terminal. Where a large number of tubes are used, the outer electrode may be dispensed with. The dielectric material may be micanite, silica or chlorinated naphthalene of high melting point. Preferably the air is introduced at a velocity which sets up and maintains turbulence in the ozonizing chamber.
