Abstract

579,748. Electric discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., FRANCIS, V. J., and NELSON, E. H. July 2, 1943, No. 10813. [Class 39 (i)] A high-pressure mercury vapour lamp having an envelope with a main approximately spherical part 1 having tubes 2 and 3 projecting therefrom in which stout rod electrodes 4 and 6 fit, and wherein the distance between the terminations of the discharge is less than the diameter of the envelope, is operated at high power by liquid cooling the envelope. The cooling jacket 9 may be an integral part of the envelope and is provided with entrance 10 and exit 11 for the cooling liquid. Specifications 503,112, 543,161 and 554,678 are referred to.
