Abstract

492,598. Vibrating vehicle - stands. COBURN, S. T. March 17, 1937, No. 7881. [Class 79 (iii)] A platform or cradle forming a vehiclestand is positively oscillated for the purpose of testing vehicle chassis and bodies for faults, a pair of pivoted members forming a toggle connection between the platform and a fixed base, and means being provided connected to the common pivot axis of the said members for imparting a reciprocatory motion to the said axis. A pair of platforms may be used connected to a single driving means. In the construction shown a platform 1 is pivoted to a base 10 at 2 at one end and is connected to the base at the other end by toggle links 5, 8, the common pivot pin 11 of the toggle being connected by a rod 12 to a crank pin 13 on a shaft 14 rotated by means of a belt pulley 16. When there are two platforms as shown, the belt pulley may be in halves, bolted together at 17, each half being secured on a separate shaft 14, so that the relative phases of the two cranks 13 may be altered by bolting the pulley halves together in different angular relation. The apparatus may be arranged in a pit so that the platform surface is substantially at floor level, and where two platforms are provided they may be provided with guard plates along their inner sides.
