Abstract

490,406. Two - part couplings. CONRADI, E. S. June 22, 1937, Nos. 17397 and 21654. [Class 38 (i)] A cable entering a plug coupling or othe article is anchored by a gripping means at tached by a resilien connecting member to the coupling &c., the gripping means con sisting of a rubbe tube 10 compressed on to the cable by a collar 26, Fig. 6, with a grub-screw 28 or by a casing 30, Fig. 4 enclosing a disc 32 wit] an eccentric hole o slot for the cable se cured by a bush 34 The disc 32 may be replaced by a rubber insert that is compressed by the bush 34. The tube 10 may also be cemented to the cable. The tube is attached to the plug coupling &c. by being formed with a ring 12 of rubber integral with the tube and strengthened by a lining of fabric, an external rib, or an enlargement 36 of the root of the tube 10. The ring 12 may be put on to the coupling by the use of a tapered block 42 having a slot 46 for the leads. The base 17 of the coupling is attached to the block and the ring 12 forced along the taper and on to the base. The block is then removed, the leads connected to the terminals, and the cover 16 applied after which the ring 12 is moved back to overlap both the base and the cover. Instead of using a ring 12 the end of the tube may be formed with an enlargement to fit within an aperture in the body of the coupling, Fig. 5 (not shown). This modification is applicable to the axial entry type of plug coupling.
