Abstract

489,723. Positive clutches. HARDY, W. G. Feb. 3, 1937, No. 3182. [Class 80 (ii)] In a dog clutch wherein the slidable dog member K carries a sleeve M<1> formed with a cone M which, as the member K is moved towards the other dog member J<4>, is first brought, by spring-pressed plungers 0 in the member K engaging a groove O<2> in the sleeve M<1>, into frictional engagement with an internal cone J<5> on the member J4 so as to effect synchronism, and detent pins N<1> carried by the member K co-operate with recesses in the sleeve M<1> so as to prevent engagement of the dogs until synchronism is reached, a broad recess P in the sleeve M<1> is separated from the recess O<2> by a shoulder R so that the plungers O, in moving out of the recess O<2> into the recess P, give a backward thrust to the sleeve M<1>, causing a momentary disengagement of the members M and J<5> prior to the engagement of the dogs. The member K, moved by a grooved collar N<2> secured to the pins N<1>, is universally connected to a sleeve K<3> splined on a shaft J<2> as described in Specification 483,845.
