Abstract

<PICT:0488743/IV/1> <PICT:0488743/IV/2> <PICT:0488743/IV/3> In order to facilitate the separation of transparent foils of cellulose hydrate and the like, the material is modified by slitting, punching or weakening to form a row of areas so arranged that a tear will be directed from one area to another. In the form shown in Fig. 1, two rows of angular incisions d are arranged with the points towards the openings of the next incision. A tongue m is used to start the tear, which proceeds as shown at t from one incision d1 to the next d11. In another form, Fig. 3, rows of triangular apertures e are arranged below the tongue m and in Fig. 5 double rows of staggered incisions f, g, h, i, direct the tear t as shown. Access of air through the incision may be prevented by applying a backing sheet, which may be of the same material as the foil. The foils may be used as backing for rolls of cotton wool for medical purposes.
