Abstract
487,504. Variable - speed gearing. ALBION MOTORS, Ltd., and KEMP, J. A. Dec. 29, 1936, No. 35587. [Class 80 (ii)] In motor-vehicle drives employing a normal gear box in series with an auxiliary box giving only a direct and an overdrive speed, the shift-rod 2 of the auxiliary box has a groove 5 coacting with a plunger 4 sliding in the frame and coacting with a groove 6 in a rod 3 connected to a shaft-rod of the main gear box. The parts are so arranged that in the position shown, in which the rod 3 is out of high gear position, the rod 2 is locked in direct drive positions and cannot be moved to the left to overdrive position until the rod 3 has been brought to high-gear positions with the notch 6 registering with the plunger 4. Similarly when the rod 2 is in overdrive position the rod 3 cannot be moved out of high-gear position.
