481,315. Lathes. CESKOSLOVENSKA ZBROJOVKA AKCIOVA SPOLECNOST BRNO. Dec. 11, 1936, No. 34119. Convention date, Dec. 12, 1935. [Class 83 (iii)] Feed gearing for lathes &c., is characterized in that between the drive shaft 5, Fig. 1, and the feed shaft 3, and between the drive shaft and the lead screw 2, an auxiliary transmission is provided comprising a planetary gear P and a gear wheel 23 mounted on the same shaft 15, the gear wheel being capable of engagement with either the feed shaft or the lead screw. The shaft 5 is driven through the usual Norton changespeed gearing (not shown) from the headstock and may be directly coupled to the lead screw 2 through the clutch S, or, by moving the wheel 7 to the extreme left it is brought into engagement with the wheel 11 which drives the feed shaft 3, these arrangements constitute the ordinary feed drives. For further ranges the wheel 7 is moved to its mid- or neutral position and the wheel block 12, 13 is moved to engage either of the wheels 16, 17 which rotate freely on the shaft 15 and carry planetary gears 19, 20 on a pin 18. The pinion 19 meshes with a wheel 21 fixed to the casing, while the pinion 20, integral with pinion 19, meshes with a wheel 22 keyed to the shaft 15. By moving the sliding gear 23 to the right or left it is brought into gear with the wheel 9 or 24 and drives, respectively, the lead screw 2 or the feed shaft 3.
