[Class 100 (ii)] A multi-unit rotary newspaper printing press is built up of a number of perfecting or multicolour units in which tubular printing-plates are used, each unit being capable of perfecting two webs simultaneously, perfecting one web in multi-colour, or printing two webs in multicolour. The units are built up so as to permit of ready accessibility to the parts, and each unit is formed of four impression cylinders 1, 1a, 2, 2a and four printing cylinders 3, 3a, 4, 4a, of which at least one pair is arranged below the impression cylinder. In Fig. 3, the other pair of plate cylinders 3, 3a are arranged with their axes in the same horizontal plane as the axes of the impression cylinders. In all cases the inking mechanisms are arranged below the plate cylinders. In Fig. 1, the unit is shown as used for perfecting two webs W, W<1> which after being printed are led over rollers 12, 12a to the folding units. Each web is led outside of the lower sets of inking mechanisms and inside the upper set. The web W may be led first over the rollers 1, 1a then over a guide roll 10 and around the two rollers 2, 2a to receive a perfected multi-colour impression. Other leads of the webs may be used ; e.g. a web W may be perfected by being led around the cylinders 1, 1a, Fig. 3, and then led around guide-rollers 10c, 10a to receive one or two further impressions from the upper couples.
