[Class 100 (ii).] Rotary machines.-A rotary printing- machine of the kind in which a number of webs are perfected in the different units of the press is provided with an auxiliary printing unit for printing an additional colour upon a web printed from either of the main units. Two of the main units 10, 11 are shown for perfecting webs 52, 53 and two other perfected webs 54, 55 are led from other units (not shown). Either of the perfected webs may be led over an auxiliary impression cylinder 25 which is of the same width .as the impression cylinders 13 of the main units, and an additional colour impression is produced from either or all of three printing cylinders 27, 28, 29 co-operating with the impression cylinder 25. The cylinders 27, 28, 29 are of the width of one page of a newspaper, and the other cylinders 13 are of the width of four pages of a newspaper, and the cylinders 27, 28, 29 are mounted in frames 16..19, and sub-frames 33, 34, in such a manner that either of the cylinders may be adjusted laterally of the wide web so as to print on the desired page of the multiwidth web. All the cylinders 27, 28, 29 may print on one page in multicolour, or the cylinders may print on different pages of the same web. Each printing cylinder 27, 28, 29 is fitted with an independent inking mechanism which is driven from the cylinder by gears 44, 45, 46, and the inking mechanism is readily accessible. The direction of rotation of the rollers 25, 27, 28, 29 may be reversed so that either side of either of the perfected webs 52..55 may be printed in colour. The cylinders 27, 28, 29 are mounted in eccentric bearings so that either of them may be tripped. If the printing surfaces on the cylinders 26, 27, 28 are planographic, or of like nature, bearers 48, 49 are used to limit the pressure on the plates. The bearers 49 can be displaced axially so as to be out of contact with the bearers 48 if typographic plates are used on the cylinders 26, 27, 28.
