484,771. Silencing gaseous currents. DRAMINSKY, P. Sept. 6, 1937, No. 24317. Convention date, Sept. 9, 1936. [Class 7 (ii)] For silencing gaseous currents, such as the exhaust of internal-combustion engines or the intake of blowers, the usual silencer is supplemented by an additional chamber which is adjusted to act as a resonator to the tone of which the frequency is equal to the number of pulsations per second of the exhaust or suction. Fig. 1 shows such a chamber 2 connected by a tube 3 with the passage 1 for the gaseous current, the resonating effect of the chamber being adjusted by means of a screw 6 connected to a tube 4 movable within the tube 3. In a modification, the tube 4 is replaced by a piston which is adjustable in the chamber 2 to vary its volume. Fig. 3 shows another form, in which the chamber 2 surrounds the passage 1, an adjustable tube 4 being arranged as shown around the passage 1.
