Abstract

484,295. Shock - absorbers. GOLDSCHMIDT, M. July 29, 1936, No. 21021. [Class 108 (iii)] A shock-absorber comprises a plurality of pairs of metal elements of hollow cylindrical or prismatic form in which some of the pairs 7, 8 of elements have rubber placed between the elements of each pair and vulcanized thereto so that the adhesion exceeds the cohesion of the rubber, while the remaining pair 7<1>, 81 or pairs of elements act simply as distance members. The construction shown is adapted mainly for resisting relative axial movements of members 2, 9 but also acts to resist small relativelyrotatable movements thereof. The metal elements are keyed on the members 2, 9 and secured between a cover 4 and shoulder 5 on the member 2, and between a shoulder 10 and a washer 11 and nut 12 on the member 9. The washer 11 and cover 4 are made conical to allow for deformation of the rubber and prevent complete separation of the members 2, 9 in the event of destruction of the rubber. Specification 428,173 is referred to.
