Abstract

482,934. Two-part couplings. HODGES, C. G. Oct. 15, 1937, No. 28091. [Class 38 (i)] A coupling for varying the connection between the mains and a pair of load circuits consists of three sockets and plugs arranged respectively as an equilateral triangle, two of the sockets and two of the plugs being of a different length from the third, so that the plugs can be inserted in various relations in the sockets to vary the circuit connections, a short socket and a short plug when coincident remaining unconnected. One short socket 3, and one or two short plugs 5 are employed, the short socket being permanently connected by a conductor 10 to one of the long sockets 1. The load circuits 6, 7 have a common connection to the short plug 5 so that as shown they are connected in series to the supply lines 8, 9 but if the plug is turned into other positions the circuits are connected in parallel or one only is energized. An earthing socket and plug or a sheath may be provided.
