Abstract

482,684. Indirectly - - heated steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. (Deutsche Babcock & Wilcox Dampfkesselwerke Akt.-Ges.) Jan. 28, 1937, No. 2554. [Class 123 (ii)] Waste heat water-tube boilers suitable for use with industrial furnace waste gases containing material in suspension comprise an opening 12 for entry of the gases into a radiation space 36, arranged for downward flow towards a slag collecting zone 68, and a path 46 leading the gases away with change of direction over a vertical-tube superheater 22. Or a number of boiler stages with vertical evaporating or superheating tubes may follow the radiation space. The boiler proper comprises an upper drum 14 connected by tubes 16 to headers 20 preferably inclined so as to facilitate collection of dust. An economizer 28 may be byepassed by operation of dampers 86, 88. The radiation space has its walls cooled by tubes 40 connected into the boiler circulation and the wall separating it from the up pass containing the superheater is formed by tubes 48, which may be studded and covered with refractory material, their lower portions 56 being plain and bent so as to extend across the collecting zone and form a screen therefor.
