Abstract

481,217. Mixing machines. STEIN & CO., Ltd., J. G., and BIGGS, H. C. Nov. 30, 1936, No. 32694. [Class 86] [Also in Groups V and X] Apparatus for mixing ceramic material comprises an evacuated rotary chamber 1, whereto liquid is added as from a pipe 14, in the absence of air, to form slip which is transferred to a mould 10 without admission of air. The slip is discharged through an evacuated pipe 9 into the mould 10 while maintaining the discharge end of the pipe 9 immersed in the slip. The mixing chamber 1 may be of prismatic shape and is mounted to rotate on trunnions 2, 3. A mixing device is provided in the form of a squirrel-cage structure of rods 5 and end rings 4 which is free to roll within the chamber on rotation thereof. The chamber is provided with a charging door 6 and a valved outlet 7. A pipe 12 is mounted axially of the trunnion 2 and can be connected either to the pipe 14 and to a vacuum pipe 17 whereto the discharge pipe 9 is also coinnected.
