Abstract
479,860. Washing-machines. PYNE, A. H., and RICHARDSON, J. R. S. Aug. 12, 1936, No. 22195. [Class 138 (ii)] In a laundry installation there is provided at a higher level than the washing-machine 1 a break-down or soaking receptacle 2 with a connecting shoot 3. For bag-washing, the receptacle 2, shoot 3 and machine 1 are all provided with a corresponding number of divisions so that after treatment in the soaking receptacle each bag travels to a separate compartment in the washer. The soaking receptacle is rotated through 180‹ to discharging position by a pinion 15 and quadrant 14 rocked by a fluid or other motor 13 ; the latter can be energized only when an exhaust valve 20 positioned near the operator of the receptacle 2 is closed and when the lower portion 5 of the shoot is swung down from the position shown in dotted lines to that shown in full lines, wherein it projects into the loading apertures of the washer. When the shoot is in this operative position, the operator of the washer rotates a locking shaft 9, carried by the stationary casing of the washer, to lock the shoot and to open the supply valve 7 to the motor 13 by a lug 8, the valve being carried by the movable portion of the shoot. The valve 7 supplies the motor through a needle valve 18, and the motor exhausts through another needle valve 19 when the valve 20 is opened. If the washer operator opens valve 7 before valve 20 is closed, fluid-pressure byepasses the cylinder 13 at 21 and operates a whistle 22. The receptacle 2 is returned to loading position by a spring 16 when the cylinder 13 exhausts following the opening of valve 20. Springs 11 maintain the portion 5 of the shoot in its extreme positions.
