[Class 38 (i)] In a socket for the end caps of tubular lamps, of the type in which the circuit is completed by rotation of the lamp after insertion in the holder, a contact member 6 slides radially across the end cap 12 by reason of engagement with a circular groove 10 eccentrically disposed thereon, and a spring clip 4, provided with projections 4<1> engages notches 8 on the contact member 6 locking it and disconnecting it from the supply terminal 19, when the lamp is removed. Upon insertion of the lamp in the socket the up-turned end 9 of the contact member 6 passes through a slot 7 into the groove 10, the conical piece 23 on the spring 22 entering the recess 24 in the cap 12. The wedge 28 on the protecting hood 2 engages the projections 4<1>, displacing them and freeing the member 6. Upon rotation of the lamp 11 the member 6 is raised and projections 15 on the insulating piece 13 engage lugs 16 moving the arms of the spring 4 outwards to engage projections 26 on the hood 2 thus retaining it in position, while the end 14 of the member 6 engages the contact connected to the supply terminal 19.
