Abstract

Stable aqueous suspensions of graphite are obtained by adding to a mixture of finely ground graphite and the medium a protective colloid consisting of a mixture of gum arabic and gum tragacanth. Preferably the graphite is ground in the presence of the gum arabic, the whole being mixed with a gel of gum tragacanth. The process is carried out in a colloid mill of the turbo-grinder type cooled to maintain a temperature below 80 DEG C. A solution of thymol in glycol may be added as a preservative.
