474,915. Applying closures to bottles. GLUNZ, H. F., and McMULLEN, R. May 9, 1936, No. 13198. [Classes 125 (ii) and 125 (iii)] Bottles &c. 12 are positioned to receive flat sealing cap blanks 13, which are rendered adhesive by heat and the blanks are crimped thereon by an elastic member 22 operated by fluid pressure. Valve controlled supply and exhaust pipes 24, 25 operate the member 22 after a cap blank has been located on a bottle by the spring pressed member 17, before the bottle is raised to the sealing position shown in Fig. 4. A series of radial fingers in the capping-head causes the blank to be lapped as shown in Fig. 7. Materials such as that sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Cellophane," waxed and paraffined paper and paper coated with cellulose acetate may be used to form the blanks. Hot air or steam is employed as the pressure medium.
