Abstract
474,005. Flying machines. HINKSON, H. S., and LOVELL, G. H. Sept. 1, 1936, No. 23951. [Class 4] A flying-machine comprises a body A, Fig. 1, shaped to represent a horse having at the hoof portions 10 telescopic shock absorbers 11, 12, Fig. 8. Head 14 and tail 15 are oppositely movable to act as rudders and are controlled by rod and lever gear shown in Fig. 5. Forward propulsion is by airscrews 30, Fig. 1, mounted on shafts 28, 29, are driven through a manually operable clutch and reduction gearing by an engine 33, Fig. 2, and upper and lower helicopter screws 41, 42, keyed to a common shaft 40 driven through a manually operable clutch and bevel gearing from engine 48. An umbrella-like parachute 52 adapted automatically to open on descent is arranged on a vertical column enclosing shaft 40, Fig. 1.
