472,055. Making valves and cocks. CORNELL, jun., E. S. March 23, 1936, No. 8642. Convention date, March 22, 1935. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Forging-dies.-Rolates to the production of integral wrought valve bodies particularly of the inverted-T-type shown in Fig. 1, and consists in a method of cold working a solid blank of copper or copper alloy in dies whereby the various limbs are progressively formed both internally and externally, leaving an internal part for the valve seat. A solid blank which may be cylindrical, is placed in a cavity of a die 22, Fig. 3, and pressure applied by punches 23, 24 shaped as shown. The punches 23 are replaced by punches with less pointed ends, and reamers in turn shape the end passages. After further shaping in dies, drilling takes place horizontally through the central partition at the top and bottom thereof. The drilled holes are enlarged by punches 31a, 31b, Fig. 8, to the form of segmental apertures. Successive drilling, shaping, reamering, and screw threading operations complete the valve body.
