Abstract

471,549. Valve amplifying circuits. KOLSTER-BRANDES, Ltd., and ROBIN, H. K. March 6, 1936, No. 6822. [Class 40 (v)] The output load impedance r is included in common with the anode - cathode and cathode-grid circuits so as to give a feedback voltage to the grid equal to that across the output impedance and in phase opposition to the input control voltage. By this means the valve is enabled to work directly into a low output impedance of approximately 100 ohms such as a transmission line, and although the voltage V2 may only be half the voltage V1, yet with a 40 to 1 step up input transformer S a power gain of 20 decibels can be obtained. The system greatly reduces crossmodulation when the valve is used for amplifying a number of carriers received on a common aerial before distribution to the respective receiving sets, and is also suitable for use as a television or as a high quality amplifier. A system using two such amplifiers in push-pull is disclosed and also a Lecher wire system with pea-nut valves arranged every quarter wave length in a concentric system, the low impedance input to the Lecher wires being directly connected to the impedance r and the virtual high-impedance output of the Lecher wire allowing of direct coupling to the next valve without the insertion of the step-up transformer S.
