469,899. Electron multipliers. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and BRETT, G. F. Feb: 3, 1936, No. 3275. [Class 39 (i)] A multiplier comprises a gun, a secondary-emitting target, and additional electrodes, surrounding the beam, which are also secondary-emitting, with the exception of that which serves as the output electrode. In one form the gun comprises a photo-electric or thermionic cathode 1, a control electrode 2 and an accelerating anode 3, and a circular or ribbon-shaped beam is projected onto a first target 4. The secondary beams travel to cylindrical electrodes 7, 6 and output electrode 5. The electrodes 4, 7, 6 may be caesium coated, and the electrodes 7, 6, 5, in that order, may have decreasing diameters. The electrodes 7, 6 may be coated on their outer as well as their inner faces with caesium so that both faces are used.
