Abstract

474,084. Electron beam valves. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and BRETT, G. F. April 29, 1936, No. 12213. Addition to 403,973. [Class 39 (i)] A beam valve comprises an accelerating anode screening the control grid from the collector, and a subdivided suppressor electrode system, the space between the portions forming the aperture for the beam. The suppressor system may comprise two half-discs 6a, 6b, with a slot between, furnished with separate leads, and the half-discs may have lips 6a<1>, 6b<1>, or extensions so that the slot is narrower at its ends than in the middle. The portions 6a, 6b may be negatively biassed, or one may be connected to the cathode inside the valve, or a deflection voltage may be applied between them, the collector being then shaped to give a desired output characteristic. The electrodes 6a, 6b may be rectangular instead of semicircular.
