Abstract
1353455 lon trapping in cathode ray tubes PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 Jan 1973 [19 Jan 1972] 2194/73 Heading H1D A cathode ray tube, such as a vidicon, includes an electron gun 6 having electrodes aligned along a first axis 18 and producing a beam of electrons with a cross-over 20 at the intersection of axis 18 and another axis 17 along which the main electron-optical system is aligned, the acute angle between the axes being preferably between 2 and 8 degrees. The electron tube further includes a diaphragm 15 which is intended to intercept more than 75% of the beam while having an aperture 16 which transmits the remainder, the aperture 16 being centred on the axis 17 and not lying at all on the axis 18. The arrangement is such that positive ions striking the cathode do so in the centre which does not provide the useful electron beam and therefore the emission characteristics are not impaired.
