[Class 51 (i)] A fuel-gasefying hood d is arranged above a furnace grate h and consists of removable side and end walls and a cover plate e supported on a pair of sinuous water-cooled tubes a, b, c. The chamber tapers towards the top and its side lower edges are spaced from the grate and inclined downwardly towards the rear. Gases from the fuel beneath the hood escape beneath the forward lower edges of the hood and pass through slotted baffles l. The hood may be provided with passages g for the supply of secondary air and liquid fuel may be supplied through nozzle tubes m. Dampers i control admission of air to the sides of the grate.
