467,935. Stuffing - box substitutes. BECK, H. E. March 20, 1936, No. 8447. [Class 122 (v)] In an oil seal comprising a washer c having an axially directed flange enclosed in a casing a, venting apertures such as holes or notches h are provided in the end wall b of the casing. The washer may have one or more conical grooves in its bearing face and may be embraced by a garter or finger spring e. Heat conducting material such as copper or copper-graphite in the form of gauze or in powdered form may be embedded in the washer to conduct heat from the bearing portion to the casing. The seal may be of the type having a casing mounted on the shaft and a washer bearing on the surrounding housing.
