Abstract

624,044. Stuffing-box substitutes. ROTAX, Ltd., and MILLNS, T. W. April 21, 1947, No. 10548. '[Class 122(v)] An oil sealing ring comprising a radially resilient metal ring 1 adapted to grip a rotary shaft and a rubber or like annulus 5 in which the ring is embedded. Preferably the ring 1 has a plurality of convolutions, for example two with an abrupt deflection 2. The ring is flanked on one side and enclosed peripherally by the annulus 5 which may be enclosed in a metal part 7 formed with tongues 8 engaging the annulus and notches 9 in the ring. The metal part may be enclosed in another metal part 10. Alternatively the combined metal ring and annulus may be secured directly in a recess in the bearing through which the shaft extends.
