Abstract

467,823. Electrical precipitation apparatus. WHESSOE FOUNDRY & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., GRANT, A. G., and PUTTICK, A. Dec. 19, 1935, No. 35205. [Class 39 (i)] The apparatus is divided into a number of units arranged in parallel, each unit comprising a number of precipitating elements, a source of high tension, liquid flushing means, and gas discharging means, provision being made for separately flushing each unit while the flow of gas and the power supply to the unit are interrupted. Preferably, the elimination of the units takes place automatically in timed sequence. In the construction described four units comprising a group of tubular precipitating devices E are housed in a casing 3 to which gas is admitted at 10 and which has a perforated partition 11 for uniformly distributing the gas among the units. The upper part of the casing is divided into four compartments C each communicating by a valve V with an annular chamber 12 having an outlet at 13. Above the compartments C is the chamber 15 containing the supports and electrical connections for the discharge electrodes arranged as described in Specification 428,471, [Group III]. The connection of each unit with the main supply 19 comprises a switch 18. Above the chamber 15 is a water tank 21 with supply pipes 22 having valves 23 leading to coarse sprays 24. The valves V, switches 18 and valves 23 are actuated by solenoids which are energized in sequence by a central controller. Alternatively other electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical operating means may be used.
