Abstract
467,630. Internal-combustion turbines. METTETAL, G. Oct. 16, 1936, No. 28110. [Class 110 (iii)] An internal-combustion turbine comprises a rotor 2 provided with a circular row of blades 3, a number of circularly arranged combustion chambers 4<a>, 4<b>, and a sleeve valve 5 between the blades and the chambers 4<a>, 4<b>. The fuel is supplied to the chambers 4<a>, 4<b> by a compressor 9 free on the rotor shaft 1 and provided with blades 10 which draw in air through ports 11 and fuel through jets 14, and force the mixture through ports 6 in the valve 5 when the ports o register with the ports 20 of the chambers. The combustion gases are delivered through ports 21 in the chambers when they register with the ports 7 on the valve 5, and after acting on the rotor blades 3, strike the oppositely arranged blades 8 on the valve and drive the valve in the opposite direction to the rotor. The compressor 9 is driven by the shaft 1 through gear train 16, 15, 12, and the shaft 1 is additionally driven by the valve through a toothed ring 18 on the valve driving the wheel 16 through a wheel 17.
