Abstract
467,102. Directing aircraft lamps. LUCAS, Ltd., J., and GOSSLING, C. E. Dec. 10, 1935, No. 34169. [Class 75 (iii)] In an electric landing-light a carried by a pivoted arm h so that it can be swung outwardly from the body of an aircraft, the arm h is operated by an electric motor l through epicyclic reduction gearing n which is frictionally controlled for enabling the gearing to slip and prevent damage to the motor when the movement of the lamp is obstructed as by the arm h or the lamp front c engaging an annular abutment g for the latter on the lamp reaching its extreme outward or inner position. The last planet pinion, or pinions, of the train may be attached by a stem s to a hollow spindle k carrying the arm h, and an internally-toothed annulus q in engagement with all the planet pinions p may be held normally to the bearing i by one or more spring-pressed friction washers v engaging a flange w so that it can rotate and allow the gearing n to slip when overloaded.
