Abstract
463,878. Pencil holders. ROYAL SOVEREIGN PENCIL CO., Ltd., and CHARNAUD, P. B. W. Oct. 8, 1935, No. 27801. [Class 146 (iii)] In a pencil holder, the lead is carried by a member secured to a fin 15 which projects through and is slidable in a slot in the barrel 10, the fin being provided with end projections 18 to hold in position a locking ring 19 which, in one position, permits the fin to slide in the barrel, but in another position locks the lead carrier by forcing the pin into engagement with the inner wall of the barrel. The ring may be formed with a flattened portion to engage the fin, the flattened portion sliding along a correspondingly flattened portion of the barrel, and the flattened portion serving, in the case of a round pencil, as a bearing-surface for the thumb or finger during writing ; alternatively, the ring may be of eccentric form. The lead carrier may be in the form of a rubber sleeve or resilient helical grip secured to an extension of the fin. According to the Provisional Specification, a lead-gripping device may be formed in the point-section of the barrel.
