Abstract

463,654. Cigarette-making machines. BINGHAM, A., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. Oct. 4, 1935, No. 27416. [Class 130] In making mouthpiece cigarettes by uniting aligned adjacent stubs and cigarettes by securing wrapping material to or around them while they are moving axially, axially aligned stubs which have ends closely abutting are fed to the machine and means are provided to space the stubs apart from each other longitudinally. Stubs fed from a hopper into the flutes of a rotating drum 3 are each cut into three pieces which are retained on the drum by peripheral guides 8. The outer stubs fall away a little from the flutes but the centre ones are retained by a closer guide plate 9 formed with camshaped edges which engage the ends of the outer stubs to separate them from the inner ones. A fluted drum 10 feeds the separated stubs to a second conveyer comprising a fluted drum 16 where side plates 14 close the outer stubs axially on to the central stubs, the stubs being again separated by guides 17 ...19, of which the outer guides 17, 19 are disposed further from the drum 16 than the central guide 18 which is formed with cam-shaped edges to separate the stubs again. The stubs slide down inclines from the drum 16 and fall singly, under control of reciprocating plates, on to a disc conveyer, pivoted fingers, operated by the plates, positioning them thereon. The disc conveyer feeds them to or between spaced cigarettes moving axially.
