521,296. Electric cables. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. Nov. 12, 1938, No. 32947. Convention date, Feb. 25. [Class 36] [Also in Group IV] Electric cables are insulated by means of low pour-point hydrocarbon oils made by further polymerization by known methods of polymers of normally gaseous iso-olefines containing 8-20 carbon atoms such as di- and tri-isobutylene or copolymers of such initial polymers and normal or iso-olefines; the former yield oils of low and the latter oils of high viscosity index. Tables are given showing the properties of the products prepared from di-isobutylene under various conditions. An electric conductor may be insulated by a spiral wrapping of paper, Fig. 1, impregnated with the oil; or the dry paper may be wrapped around the conductor and the hot oil is then forced in from one end after the air between the lead sheath and the conductor has been evacuated. Alternatively, Fig. 2, the conductor 1 is spaced from its outer sheath 2 by spacing-means 4 and the space between is filled with the oil.
